Check that all the legal notices are present on your shop
When you set up your shop like many e-merchants, you tend to neglect administrative documents. However, e-commerce sites are subject to special regulations that require them to include a certain number of mandatory mentions. Read this article carefully and protect yourself against any unpleasant surprises!

#1. Your contact details
When customers make a purchase, not only do they need accurate information about what they are buying and the total cost, they also need to receive information about your business. This includes:

  • Company name
  • Legal form
  • Postal address of the head office
  • Phone Mail
  • BCE number (Crossroads Bank for Enterprises)
  • VAT number
  • Competent supervisory authority (if necessary for your activity)
  • Regulated profession (professional title and link to professional rules)
#2. General terms and conditions of use (GTCU)
The purpose of these Terms of Use is to indicate to Internet users the purpose of your site, the conditions of access to it and its conditions of use. It is not mandatory to include the GTCU on your website, however, we strongly recommend that you do so. Indeed, the CGU contract legally frames the relationships and conflicts that may arise between the site publisher and the visitor.

The general terms and conditions of use of a website have legal force and are enforceable only if the visitor has taken note of these conditions and has explicitly accepted them.

Although it is not obligatory to draw up terms and conditions of use, it is advisable to make them accessible to any user/buyer: we recommend putting them on every page of the website.

For example, you could put all your data (contact details, T&Cs, terms and conditions of sale) at the bottom of the page, as shown in the picture below. This feature is included in our Sayl Retail offer.
#3. General terms of Sale (GTC)
The GTC and GTCU are often confused although they have a different purpose. The General Terms and Conditions of Sale (GTC) refer to the clauses on a website on which goods or services are sold. They will define the contractual relationship between the seller and the buyer, whether a private individual or a professional. The content of the GTC is regulated by law.

Here is the information that must be included in your GTC:
  • Terms and conditions of online purchase
  • Characteristics of the products and services offered
  • Terms of payment
  • Shipping and delivery time
  • Withdrawal period
  • Tariffs
  • Additional costs
  • Geographical availability
  • Don't forget to date and sign your GTC.
#4. Privacy Policy
Everyone has already heard the term GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations). European legislation is very strict regarding the protection of users' data.

When you collect user information (via registration, purchase or contact forms) from people who visit your e-commerce site, you are obliged to inform the user. You must also indicate where their personal data is stored.

If you use cookies, your site must have a cookie policy informing the user that cookies are used when accessing the site.
